What are fellowships?
Fellowships are undertaken by trained anaesthesia providers who want to develop their careers by specialising or sub-specialising. The WFSA offers its Fellowships to anaesthesiologist from low and middle-income countries to increase their skillset and become leaders for anaesthesia once they return to their home countries.
To reduce the mortality rates of preventable deaths related to unsafe anaesthesia and surgical practices, there is an urgent need to meet the downfall of skilled anaesthesia providers in lower-income countries. WFSA’s Global Fellowship Programme provides low-cost, high-quality training to anaesthesiologists across Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America.

Since its inception in 1996, our flagship programme has provided over 400 fellows from 62 countries the opportunity to be mentored across 8 anaesthesia specialities and sub-specialities.
As highlighted by returning Fellows, the WFSA fellowships have a lasting impact both on the skills and professional development of the individuals but also their colleagues and patients back home. Find out more about this impact from Fellowship testimonies.
