The timeline offers a journey through WFSA’s milestones, achievements, and the people who have shaped global anaesthesiology over the past 70 years.
This year, WFSA celebrates 70 years of uniting anaesthesiologists around the world to improve patient care. To mark this milestone, we are proud to launch the WFSA History Timeline, a new resource that traces the Federation’s journey from its founding at the first World Congress of Anaesthesiologists in 1955 to today.
The timeline highlights key milestones, memories, and initiatives that have shaped global anaesthesia. From expanding membership to 142 societies across 151 countries, to pioneering education through the Anaesthesia Tutorial of the Week and the WFSA Fellowship Programme, the timeline showcases how WFSA has strengthened training, standards, and patient safety worldwide.
The launch of the History Timeline is not just a look back, it’s a way to celebrate the dedication of volunteers, Member Societies, and partner organisations whose work has advanced safe anaesthesia globally.
