The WFSA Annual Report 2025 showcases a year of global collaboration, education, and progress in advancing safe anaesthesia.
The WFSA Annual Report 2025 reflects a year of steady progress in strengthening anaesthesia care worldwide, alongside a milestone celebration of 70 years of WFSA. The report brings together highlights from across education, training, advocacy, partnerships, and governance, showing how collective effort continues to support safer anaesthesia in diverse settings.
In 2025, WFSA expanded its capacity-building work through SAFE training programmes, fellowships, scholarships, simulation training, and digital learning, reaching clinicians across more than 80 countries. Initiatives such as Patient Blood Management, Vital Anaesthesia Simulation Training, and support for Liberia’s first home-grown anaesthesiologist demonstrate a continued focus on practical, context-appropriate solutions.
Advocacy remained a central pillar, with WFSA engaging at global and regional levels through the World Health Organization, the Acute Care Action Network, and regional committees. The year also saw continued work on global surgery metrics, mentoring programmes, and collaboration with member societies and partners.
The report includes key figures, financial insights, governance updates, and a tribute to Jannicke Mellin-Olsen, recognising her lasting contribution to the global anaesthesia community. It also looks ahead to 2026, outlining upcoming programmes, leadership elections, and preparations for the World Congress of Anaesthesiologists in Marrakech.
