Abstracts Book for 18th World Congress of Anaesthesiologists 2024 (WCA24) published in special Anesthesia & Analgesia Supplement.
A total of 1,654 abstracts from 106 countries were submitted to WCA24 for consideration. Of these, 1,209 were selected for moderated e-poster presentations across the 18 congress tracks, covering topics from global health to airway management.
All the abstracts showcased at the congress in March 2024 have been compiled into a comprehensive WCA24 abstract book, available on the WFSA Virtual Library.
The book opens with standout contributions, including the top three presentations from each track as selected by the track chairs. It also features the winners and runners-up of the Basic Science and Clinical Research competitions, which recognise the best abstracts of the entire Congress.
Awarded abstracts:
Basic Science Competition
- 1st place: Lijian Pei
- 2nd place: Mengzhe Xiao
- 3rd place: Shengwen Guo
Clinical Science Competition
- Equal 1st place: Dong-Xin Wang
- Equal 1st place: Sunny Lou
- 3rd place: John Pearson
Prizes were USD $1000, $750 and $500 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively, and all presenters received complimentary registration for the next World Congress 2026 in Marrakech.
The Basic Science and Clinical Research winners were decided by the WFSA Scientific Programme Committee, with presenters of shortlisted abstracts asked to give an additional oral presentation.
The competitions were chaired by Dr Adéle de Goede Mey. Judges for the Basic Science competition were Drs Daqing Ma, Beverly Orser and E Wang, and those for the Clinical Research were Drs Joana Berger-Estilita, Justin Ko and Paul Myles.
