WFSA had the opportunity to visit a hospital in Nepal and see first-hand how obstetric care and anaesthesia support safe childbirth.
At Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu, every birth tells a story of skill, teamwork, and care. In a busy, resource-limited setting, doctors, nurses, and anaesthesia teams work together to ensure safe deliveries. From monitoring mothers and babies to providing anaesthesia, postnatal care, and education, each step reflects the dedication and expertise that make safe childbirth possible.
The Society of Anaesthesiologists of Nepal (SAN), a WFSA member since 1988 with 490 members today, has been a key part of advancing anaesthesia in Nepal. Thanks to Dr Utsav Acharya, Assistant Professor of Anaesthesiology, Tribhuvan University, Institute of Medicine, Maharajgunj Medical Campus, and a member of the SAN governing board, WFSA had the opportunity to visit the hospital.
