Anaesthesia professionals share their knowledge and experiences of providing care in health emergencies for World Anaesthesia Day 2025.
On 16 October, the global anaesthesia community came together to celebrate World Anaesthesia Day 2025 under the theme Anaesthesiology in Health Emergencies. The day recognised the indispensable role of anaesthesiologists in emergency and critical care settings, and highlighted their frontline contributions during disasters, trauma, and pandemics.
World Anaesthesia Day Webinar Marathon
To mark the day, thousands of participants joined the WFSA-hosted World Anaesthesia Day Webinar Marathon – a full day of live sessions exploring different dimensions of anaesthesiology in health emergencies. The marathon featured four expert-led webinars designed to share knowledge, experiences, and practical insights across regions and specialities:
The sessions showcased the depth of expertise within our community and reinforced how anaesthesiologists play a central role in stabilising and saving lives during health crises.
Session 1: Paediatric and Obstetric Emergencies
Session 2: Management of Trauma and Bleeding
Session 3: Cardiorespiratory Support in Health Emergencies
Session 4: Safety, Quality, Education and Pain Management During Health Emergencies
Worldwide Engagement

Beyond the webinars, World Anaesthesia Day came alive across social media. Using #WAD2025 and the logo, anaesthesiologists and societies shared stories, photos, and messages celebrating the speciality. Posts highlighted real-life experiences from emergency and critical care settings, reflected the global reach of the community, and showed the impact anaesthesiologists have in saving lives. Conversations, comments, and shares created a sense of connection across continents, turning the day into a worldwide celebration of the profession.

WFSA’s #InTheirShoes campaign featured short video clips of anaesthesiologists working in emergency settings, giving a powerful, human face to this year’s theme.
A Collective Celebration
We also launched a virtual photobooth, where colleagues from around the world uploaded photos, added WAD branding, and proudly shared them online.
From virtual sessions to vibrant social engagement, World Anaesthesia Day 2025 was a shared celebration of the global anaesthesia community. WFSA, together with anaesthesiologists around the world, celebrated the professionals who ensure patient safety in emergencies, crises, and across all settings where anaesthesia care is essential.

The WAD2025 logo and social media banners were downloaded and used widely by our Member Societies to localise and amplify the message.
