Applications open: thoracic anaesthesia fellowship, India

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi is offering one 6-month Thoracic Fellowship position, starting in July 2025

Applications are now invited for a scholarship for this position. The successful applicant will receive funding to cover tuition, accommodation and subsistence living expenses.  Funding is provided by the WFSA. 

Fellows will work at the department of Thoracic Anaesthesia, HDU, ICU, and Preoperative PAC clinic. Teaching will be provided by local faculty and visiting specialists. 

All applicants must be registered medical practitioners in their country of origin and eligible for (temporary) registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India.  In addition to the WFSA application, it will be mandatory to apply for an Indian visa, which you cannot apply for until you have been registered with NMC. 

Preference will be given to young and upcoming anaesthesiologists.  

Applicant criteria

  • Must be supported in their application by their own national anaesthesiology society which must be a member society of the WFSA. 
  • Must be supported in their application by their head of department or hospital management. 
  • Must be returning to their home country to a recognised post. 
  • Should ideally be working in a teaching hospital. 
  • Must intend to promote thoracic anaesthesia in their country upon return. 

How to apply: 

In order to apply, please head to our online application platform to register/login. Select ‘Start application’ under the ‘All other WFSA Awards’ icon. On the next page, select Chapter ‘Fellowships’ and Category ‘New Delhi Thoracic Anaesthesia Fellowship 2025’. 

The deadline for applications is 19th February 2025. Please complete your application form and upload the following documents: 

  • Curriculum vitae with one recent photo 
  • Letter of recommendation from the applicant’s national anaesthesiology society 
  • A minimum of two recommendations from the applicant’s head of department, hospital management, mentor, or a colleague 
  • Copy of medical degree 
  • Copy of specialist anaesthesiology qualification 

Applications will be considered by a panel of anaesthesiologists selected by WFSA, and successful applicants will be informed by email by the first week of March at the latest.  

Successful applicants must confirm their intention to take up the scholarship within 5 days of notification. Failure to do so will result in the scholarship being offered to the next applicant.
