Tata Medical Center is offering one Onco-Anaesthesia Fellowship position starting in January 2027. The duration of the fellowship is twelve months.
The WFSA Kolkata Onco-anaesthesia Fellowship — the first WFSA-affiliated onco-anaesthesia fellowship of its kind — is a 12-month programme designed for anaesthesiologists from LMICs seeking structured, high-volume subspecialty training. Fellows will be equipped to independently manage complex onco-surgical cases and return home as practitioners and educators capable of building onco-anaesthesia capacity in their own settings.
Fellows will gain clinical competency across the following domains:
• Perioperative medicine: Preoperative evaluation, prehabilitation, and ERAS pathways
• Vascular access and haemodynamic monitoring
• Advanced airway management
• Fluid and patient blood management in complex, long-duration surgeries
• Regional anaesthesia as applicable to cancer surgery
• Acute pain services
• Pharmacological management of chronic cancer pain
Academic activities include biweekly didactic sessions, case conferences, and morbidity and mortality reviews.
Applications are now invited for a scholarship for this position. The successful applicant will receive funding to cover travel, tuition, accommodation and subsistence living expenses. Funding is provided by WFSA and Tata Medical Center.
All applicants must be registered medical practitioners in their country of origin and eligible for (temporary) registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India. In addition to the WFSA application, it will be mandatory to apply for an Indian visa, which you cannot apply for until you have been registered with the NMC.
Preference will be given to young and upcoming anaesthesiologists.
Applicants for WFSA sponsorship should fit the following criteria:
- Must be supported in their application by their own national anaesthesiology society, which must be a Member Society of WFSA.
- Must be supported in their application by their head of department or hospital management.
- Must be returning to their home country to a recognized post.
- Should ideally be working in a teaching hospital.
- Must intend to promote onco-anaesthesia in their country upon return.
- Must have a working knowledge of the English language, as the programme is fully taught in English.

The deadline for applications is 30 August 2026. Please complete your application form and upload the following documents:
- Curriculum vitae with one recent photo
- Letter of recommendation from the applicant’s national anaesthesiology society
- Letter of recommendation from the applicant’s hospital/institution
- Copy of medical degree
- Copy of specialist anaesthesiology qualification
Applications will be considered by a panel of anaesthesiologists selected by WFSA and Tata Medical Center, and successful applicants will be informed by email by the end of September.
Successful applicants must confirm their intention to take up the scholarship within five days of notification. Failure to do so will result in the scholarship being offered to the next applicant.
