Paediatric Anaesthesia Training in Africa (PATA) Zambia is offering two 12-month Paediatric Fellowship positions starting September 2025.
Fellows will work with and rotate in the Departments of Anaesthesia at University Teaching Hospital and University of Zambia, National Heart Hospital and Beit Cure Children’s Hospital. Teaching will be provided by local faculty and visiting specialists.
PATA is locally led and supported by the WFSA, Society of Anaesthetists of Zambia (SAZ), the University of Zambia and experienced partners from the global surgery and anaesthesia space.
Applications are invited for the fellowship. Funding may be available for sponsorship for successful applicants
Preference will be given to young and upcoming anaesthesiologists. However, older anaesthesiologists may apply and the selection panel will consider each applicant’s place of work and other factors when making a decision.
Applicant criteria:
- Must be registered medical practitioners in their country of origin.
- Must have keen interest in paediatric anaesthesia and perioperative care
- Must be supported in their application by their own national anaesthesiology society which must be a member society of the WFSA.
- Must be supported in their application by their head of department or hospital management.
- Must be returning to a recognised post in-country
- Should ideally be working in a hospital that provides perioperative care for paediatric patients

The deadline for applications is 15th May 2025. Please complete your application form and upload the following documents.
- Curriculum vitae
- Letter of recommendation from the applicant’s national anaesthesiology society
- Letter of recommendation from the applicant’s head of department or hospital management
- Copy of medical degree
- Copy of specialist anaesthesiology qualification
- Certificate of registration with the medical council or board of participant’s country
- Current practicing licence form the medical council or board of participant’s country
- Copy of photograph page of passport
In addition to the WFSA application, candidates must also apply directly to the University of Zambia. This is an online process application and any clarification regarding the process can be sought from the course coordinator.
Eligible candidates will be required to partake in an interview once the application period has closed. Successful applicants will be informed by 15th June 2025 by email.
Successful applicants must confirm their intention to take up the fellowship within 3 days of notification. Failure to do so will result in the fellowship being offered to the next applicant.
